Wedding Update...

I think we are on schedule for what needs to be done so far.  This last weekend I headed back to my hometown with John, which probably wasn't the best idea since both the Bix and RAGBRAI were happening there and there was an extra 100,000 people in town.  But we needed to get stuff done, so there we were driving through the quad cities like crazy and figuring out the answer to the question "How much road construction can you you encounter on a road trip?", and the answer is a literal fuck ton.  We were aided in our trips between Bettendorf, IA and Moline, IL by the closing of the major bridge that crosses between the two, so what would normally be an hour trip was changed into a 4 hour experience.

We have the officant, flowers, cake, tuxes and decorations worked out now.  The officant we found was this nice VA chaplin, and is perfectly happy marrying us whereever we want and with whatever kinda of ceremony we want to do.  Which was definitly not the response I got from Mom and Dad's minister at thier church.  Another reason John and I really didn't want a relgious officant, but none of the judges that we called worked out.  The one problem with this officant is he already has a rehersal wedding at the same time we would like ours, but is open for our wedding time.  So what we are going to do is meet him on Thursday, and run through the ceremony with him then, and then John and I (and maybe the best man Chad) will run the actual rehershal on Friday.

Flowers you guys probably don't care too much about, but the cake, let's talk about that one.  We are doing three layers, one white, one red velvet and one strawberry.  I am so excited because the bakery we are using has awesome tasting cake, so I better get a piece at my wedding!  The frosting will be buttercream and we are just doing some swirl design that kinda looks like vines.  It is all going to be ivory colored with ribbon at the bottem of each layer.  Currently trying to decide to pick up purple or ivory ribbon.  Just looked on Ebay and it looks like I can find a lapis ribbon pretty easy.

Well that seems like enough of an update for now.  Still got to figure out the rehershal dinner location, and a good salon for the hair, but otherwise everything is pretty much decided.

  1. Cake sounds good and I'm happy to hear that you have a Chaplin I know you were worried, but we did have Joyce ready to get certified online as a last resort.

  2. Sounds like things are going well (once you get past the annoying traffic construction :P)! If you're worried about missing out on your cake, you can adjust your timing of the reception for a gap after cake cutting so you and John can eat your cake. Or you can tell the catering people to set aside a slice for each of you when they're cutting the cake so you can eat it.
