e.l.f. cosmetics scam?

So while browsing my daily blogs (yes I have blogs I read daily) there was a post on WiseBread that caught my eye. E.L.F. cosmetics were on sale for just a $1 each. Well me being a huge makeup fan, thought this was an awesome deal that needed to be checked out. Also there was a coupon code (CAROLINA) for %50 off your order up to $15 (so pretty much if you spend $15 get $7.50 off). After reading some reviews it looks like there are a lot of mixed opinions on the brand. Some people love it, some people are calling it a scam. I am not going to cancel my order (I got 15 bucks worth of stuff and pretty much free shipping with the coupon code), I am interested to see how it turns out. Because if it is something that I end up liking, it would be awesome just to pay $1 for each item! If not, well that $15 I could have bought some drinks with, but I did learn my lesson, plus I have spent more money on one mascara before then what my entire order cost (and I still hold that the DiorShow mascara was worth it). Well we will see, also supposedly shipping takes a long time... Good thing I didn't order anything I needed right away, which then takes into account, if I didn't need anything, why did I order stuff? Hmmm I am just going to blame it on being a girl, and seeing $1 makeup and not being able to resist.

  1. I hope that your makeup situation works out, as there is nothing quite as satisfactory as finding a freakin' sweet bargin. Like today I found a liter of extra virgin olive oil at World Market for $8, so I wish you the luck I had. :)

On a side note, I was catching up with your other blogs and I loooooove Moscato wine. I've only had Sutter Home, but I love that wine!! And glad to hear you guys are okay after the storms.

  2. $1 make up. Sounds pretty tempting... they didn't like, test it on animals or anything did they? ^_^ It doesn't sound like a scam, it just might not be the quality some prefer. Aka, Dior. lol. I bought $20 mascara and I love it (Aveda--all natural, doesn't make my eyes get jacked up). Good luck!

  4. Well I ended up just cancelling my order after they still hadn't processed it in 4 weeks. I would keep your order in if you don't have too much stuff, but if you are getting a lot, I think that would make me nervous. I was going to try out some lipsticks and lip glosses mostly.

  5. wow 4 weeks? I called customer service and asked how long... they said it takes 2-3 days to process and then normally 5-7 days to receive after that. but she said since i'm in nj, i should get it in about 4 days total. i did buy a lot of stuff. ew why didnt they ship your stuff sooner? did you get a refund at least?

  6. The ELF Costmetic "deal" is nothing more than a scam. Beware! The cosmetics they advertised as high quality cosmetic clearance items from Nordstrom's is nothing more than cheap dime store makeup. When I received the package I returned it and they credited my card...but it didn't end there. They have been fraudulently charging my card $12.00 per month ever since for a "membership" service. Basically, they sold my email address to other vendors and have been charging me $12.00 per month (unauthorized) to receive spam emails from their partners.
I have contacted the FTC and filed a fraud report.
